Take the path that goes past the left of the Observatory and take the right fork. from Campo Imperatore to the Sella de Monte Aquila. Take the left fork and continue north for about one kilometer. Ignore paths that go downhill to the left and continue more or less level towards a steep slope. The path climbs this slope while traversing left. You reach a plateau called Sella del Brecciaio at 2506 metres. Stay right at the next fork and continue the climb to Conca degli Invalidi at 2615 metres where the path forks again. The west ridge route to the highest point of Corno Grande forks right at this point. The path follows the ridge, is well marked and never too steep. There is some exposure and one should hike carefully because of possible loose gravel.
The Corno Grande is the highest peak in the Apennines at 2,912 metres and you get a stunning full-frontal view of this impressive mountain from the terrace of Villa Mandorla.

One might think that only mountaineers can reach the top, but there is a route up from Campo Imperatore that is possible for moderately fit walkers thanks to a high altitude start point.

It is only 35 minutes from the Villa to the cable car at Fonte Cerreto - this takes you up to the ski resort at Campo Imperatore, which is the start of the walk.

If for any reason the cable car is closed, you can drive up to the Campo Imperatore start point.
Villa Mandorla against the Corno Grande.
The easiest route up is called Via Normale, but it is classified as moderate/demanding as there are some steep scree sections and the final section to the summit is very steep and involves some scrambling. The path may not be very obvious at this point.
