The Salinello Gorge is one of the most spectacular valleys in Abruzzo, made more beautiful by its waterfalls and unusual rock patterns.

The area is also a designated nature reserve, and is located between the Fiore and Campli mountains of the Laga Range, also known as the "Monti Gemelli" because of their similar shapes.
Access to the Salinello Gorge is from the village of Ripe which is very close to Civitella del Tronto, just north of Teramo. Thus, a visit to the Bourbon fortress at Civitella, followed by a walk along the gorge makes a very full and interesting day out from Villa Mandorla.
There are caves along the gorge, the most famous of which is the enchanting little monastery of Grotta di S. Michele Arcangelo. The walk starts and finishes here.
It takes about 4 hours to walk along the signposted path running along the valley, which leads to the impressive ruins of Castel Manfrino, but you can turn back at any time.

You will discover many beautiful wild flowers along your walk, so take your camera!
