This is an easy walk in the Monte della Laga. The views are extensive and impressive and the waterfall at the end is lovely.

Drive to the village of Capricchia, which is near to the town of Amatrice but can be reached via Campotosto Lake and Poggio Cancelli. This is a lovely drive.

If you want a long walk you can start from the village, but for a shorter walk you can drive to a car park at Sacro Cuore at 1380 metres. There is a large grassy bowl which is a very popular spot with Italians on a Summer weekend, so if you want a quieter time, go on a weekday.

The view from here is extensive and very impressive and there is a statue of Jesus.

As you stand in the car park looking at the statue of Jesus, the start of the walk is to your right and will be marked to Monte Gorzano. The path starts in a wooded picnic area and then later forks left.

From here you walk along the side of a gorge. The path gradually drops down to a rocky stream. If conditions are good (ie if there is not too much water) you can cross the stream to the base of the waterfall.

This is an easy walk but if you are afraid of heights or edges, this might be unsuitable for you. However, it would still be worth a visit to Sacro Cuore, either by car or on foot from Capricchia.
