This is a short walk through beech forests to the base of the gigantic north face of Monte Camicia, which has been called the Eiger of the Apennines.

Villa Mandorla is right under this mountain, so this walk is very local. The photo shows Monte Camicia seen from the terrace of the Villa.

The walk starts in cool beech forests.
Drive towards Castelli to the houses of San Salvatore and park. Walk to a hairpin bend in the road where there is a sign for 'Sentiero dei 4 Vadi'. Follow this sign through beech forests. It descends slightly then rises again.
At a fork take the left path which leads to a rocky stream with waterfalls and pools, very good for having a paddle and cooling down on a hot summer day. You can continue to walk up the stream to the base of the north face of Monte Camicia, where there may be a nevaio (snowfield) but beware of falling rocks.
